We went camping for the day with some friends, and the boys decided to roast marshmellows. Well before we could load them up with marshmellows, they decided to have a stick fight. When Baeden went to stick the other boys, he slipped and fell into the bed of hot coals. We then had to drive 35 minutes to the Urgent Care in Boerne, while Baeden held his hand in a small trashcan fell of icy water. It was truly any mother's nightmare. The skin was hanging of his hand. This was one of the scariest moments Mommy has ever experienced.
Baeden had to be sedated as the Doctor cut away the skin that had been burned off and then wrapped him up tight to make sure the wounds would be protected until we could get to a hand specialist for evaluation.

You may be thinking this looks pretty bad. Well this is actually one week from initial burn. This was not the worst of it. We were finally allowed to expose Baeden's hand so I could take a picture.
Whenever Mommy would ask Baed to show his booboo, he would show off his other hand that had the tiniest barely burned little scab. Notice the massive wrapping job on his right hand and leg. Imagine trying to convince a 20 month old that he has to leave the wrap on. Needless to say, Mommy and Daddy had to constantly re-wrap it.
Baeden has officially been given the clear-all from the Doctor. He no longer has to wear any wraps. We just have to lube him up with the sunblock every time he goes outside for the next year so that the scar will be minimal. He has been such a good sport through this whole ordeal. He was definitely being watched over by a higher power when he fell into the hot bed of coals. Only his hand and leg were burned when he fell stomach first on his face into the bed. This definitely could have been REALLY bad. Mommy and Daddy are so grateful that God spared Baeded minimal damage and allowed the burns to heal with no major complications.
Moral of the story: Never play near coals, even if they have been cooling off over night. And yes it takes less than a split second for harm to befall a child. As parents, we try so hard to protect our children and always look out for danger. No matter how hard we try there is always that chance the something will go wrong. Becoming a mom of 2 boys has definitely brought me closer to God. Only through the power of constant prayer am I able to make it through every bump, bruise, and scrape.
I also think Urgent Care should have a punch card system. Each visit you recieve a punch and your 6th visit is free. Yes, we are frequent visitors of Urgent Care. We have only been 5 times in the last 3 months. I think that qualifies us for at least the VIP card for rapid check-in and automatic advancement to the front of the line.
